Trek's Emonda SL is an incredibly light frame that more importantly, rides incredibly well. Trek set out to make a super-light production frame, and they succeeded, with this gorgeous piece of carbon craftsmanship coming in at 1,050 grams. Beyond the weight, the folks at Trek know that the RIDE is everything. The geometry was crafted with feedback from pro racers. Stiff where you want power transfer, compliant where it counts. Only from countless wins and hours in the saddle, can you achieve a ride like this. All the things that make a truly great frame are here, tapered head tube, BB90 and internal cable routing. You even get started off right with a full carbon fork and a Race X Lite stem and seatmast cap courtesy of Bontrager.
For increased stiffness and improved steering precision, tapered head tubes (see image, on left) and forks pair an oversize lower steerer tube (usually 1 1/2-inch, see image, on right) with a standard diameter upper steerer tube (usually 1 1/8-inch). This combination sheds weight compared to straight 1 1/2-inch systems, and adds stability and stiffness when compared to straight 1 1/8-inch systems. The result is a bike that tracks better through corners while allowing for the use of standard stems.
